RIP Bobbi Kristina

I have always been a fan of Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston’s music regardless of whatever legal or drug related problems that they had. I grew up listening to their music even though I am not old enough to remember when Whitney Houston or Bobby Brown was on top of the charts. When news circulated around social media about the death of late, R&B singer Whitney Houston and R&B singer, Bobby Brown’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, I was sadden by a promising life cut short. Bobbi Kristina has been in a coma for months since being found face down and under a bath tub on January 31st, 2015. In June, she was taken off of life support and transferred to a hospice so that she could die slowly.

On July 26th, 2015, she was surrounded by family and friends, Bobbi Kristina died in the Peachtree Christian Hospice. She was twenty two years old.

Bobbi Kristina’s death is eerily similar to the death of her late mother, Whitney Houston. Legendary singer, Whitney Houston was found dead, face down in a bathtub on February 11, 2012. Bobbi Kristina was eighteen at the time of her mother’s death and  inherited her mother’s estate. She had a hard time dealing with the death of her mother and turned to alcohol and drug use to cope with it due to her lack of genuine support from her family and strained relationship with her father, Bobby Brown. In fact, in the reality TV show, The Houstons: On Our Own, some of the episodes show Bobbi Kristina using slurred speech and other inappropriate behavior from excessive drinking and partying.

However Bobbi Kristina did find herself getting work in a recurring role in Tyler Perry’s show, For Better or Worse.

Here is her, breaking down after talking about her mother on The Houstons: On Our Own

The only person that Bobbi Kristina was truly close to in the last years of her life was her boyfriend, Nick Gordon. Nick Gordon is a young man that her mother, Whitney Houston adopted and took in before she died. After Whitney Houston died in 2012, Nick Gordon and Bobbi Kristina grew closer and became lovers. They were engaged by the end of the year. Nick Gordon and Bobbi Kristina showed up in red carpet and public events together and even married in early 2014 but the marriage was never made legal.

When Bobbi Kristina was found face down and unresponsive in a bath tub on January 31st, 2015, her boyfriend, Nick Gordon was on top of the list of suspects that was suspected of being involved in Bobbi Kristina being found face down in a bath tub. According to many sources, Bobbi Kristina had bruises all on her face, neck and other parts of her body and her front teeth were knocked out. There were reports out there that accused Nick Gordon took $11,000 out of her checking account and that he isolated Bobbi Kristina from her family and friends and physically abused her. Nick Gordon was sent to rehab and went back to living with his mother and step father. He even broke down on Dr. Phil when he spoke about the demise of Whitney Houston and her daughter and his lover, Bobbi Kristina in a coma but regardless Nick Gordon still considered that a person many feel was involved in Bobbi Kristina’s death. In fact, he was banned by her family from ever visiting Bobbi Kristina’s bedside.

Here is a shot from Nick Gordon’s appearance on Dr. Phil.

Bobbi Kristina was placed in a coma and ventilator for months as her family members decided on whether or not to take her off of life support. And many of her relatives even argued over who inherits Whitney Houston’s fortune and estate once Bobbi Kristina passes away. Finally, her family decided to and took her off of life support on June 24th and moved her to a hospice. There, Bobbi Kristina slowly withered away and died on July 26th. She had a picture of her mother on her bedside and she was surrounded by family and those that loved her.

Ultimately her ending was very sad but what saddens is that Bobbi Kristina had all of the money, resources and power to turn her life around and better herself. She could have gone to a therapist, went to college or even jump started a career in the entertainment industry(Bobbi Kristina has a recurring role in Tyler Perry’s show For Better or Worse) but she chose to waste all of that potential on drugs and alcohol. Unfortunately, she was raised seeing her parents booze and do drugs and was only emulating the poor experience her parents set for her. However what truly saddens me is that Whitney Houston’s legacy has come to this: a legacy of generational alcohol and drug use that mired the lives and potential of two, young women.

Let’s pause for a moment and remember two women whose lives were tragically cut short due to a cycle of drug and alcohol abuse:

Whitney Houston- August 9th, 1963-February 11th, 2012

Bobbi Kristina Brown-March 4th, 1993-July 26th, 2015
